One Hand Clapping: Zen Stories for All Ages
Published in Hardcover by Rizzoli (May, 1995)
Average review score:

beautiful! This book is full of great storys full of wisdom. the best part is that no matter when you read them or what your going through these storys offer insight for everything! amusing and colorful!
Beautiful, Simple & Touching BookI read this book while sitting in a book store one day after not being able to put it down. It is a compilation of simplified tales and fables from the Zen perspective. Though this is a book intended for children I think many adults would appreciate this book to and this would make a great book to read to a child. The tales are very simple yet hold a lot of deep meaning and one could think about them a long time while gleaning new insights. The illustrations are neat too. Over all a very gentle and beautiful book which I would highly recommend. I am getting a copy for my mom for Christmas!

Ordinary Courage: The Life of Joseph Plumb Martin
Published in Paperback by Brandywine Pr (July, 1993)
Average review score:

168 Pages of REAL American HistoryIf you are considering the military, if you just need some courage in your life, or if you just enjoy American History, this book is a must read. James Kirby Martin will become your mentor, but he will always remain a simple man. The most valuable part of this book is the reality of the American Revolution. It will open your eyes to the hardships that the ordinary soldiers had to go through so that you can sit here and read this review. READ IT...YOU'LL LOVE IT!
A truly valuable artifact of American History"Ordinary" hardly seems to be the appropriate description of one Joseph Plumb Marin. True, Martin never holds any rank of note in the Revolutionary Army, however his contribution to the cause of American independance transcends any momentary action or deed. Martin's greatest donation is this work, loaded with stories of struggle, pain and hardships that make him quite extraordinary. His colloquail style and humor, even in the face of starvation and death, gives the reader a new frame of reference with which to view the War for Independance.

Original Aston-Martin DB4/5/6
Published in Hardcover by Motorbooks International (May, 1900)

Original Aston Martin DB4/5/6This book is essential for anyone performing a restoration on or buying a DB4-6. The author is extremely knowledgable, having owned a number of Astons including some real clunkers. Not only does he know what to look for in terms of originality but his knowledge of what can go wrong makes this book a buyers guide in addition to an aid to restoration.
Definitive guide for restorationAs usual in the "Original" serie, the author goes through every possible detail of the various cars, covering the models: DB4, GT, Zagato (including the Sanction II re-edition), DB5 and DB6, with the Convertible, Volante and Vantage variations, plus the Estate conversions and the Lagonda Rapide (? not sure about the name) which shared the same chassis with the DB serie.
The only proper definition for the book is ANAL... it is! every little aspect, down to the correct colors for the distribution wires, is covered. That's why is the DEFINITIVE guide if you intend to buy a DB and have it restored to the showroom conditions, or check if what you're about to buy is what's claimed to be.
now, if the author would kindly give me a DB4 Series I as a present for this excellent review, I'd be extremely grateful! :-)

The original Bible restored
Published in Unknown Binding by ASK Publications ()

The Original Order of the Bible's Books -- How and Why!The order of the books in our Bible was altered by Church authorities for anti-Semitic reasons. The Jewish Tanakh preserves the original order of Old Testament books -- little known to Christians! No published New Testament orders its books as the apostles arranged them! This book reveals the original manuscript order of the books of Scripture and fruitfully considers why the original canonizers so arranged them. Understanding the divinely inspired order of the books makes the Bible easier to understand!
Changed my view of the Bible!I had always thought that, which books included in New Testament, was decided by a late church council, after pagan and anti-Semitic influences had entered. This book provides evidence from the New Testament that the apostles themselves put the New Testament together. It also shows that the original order of the New Testament was changed slightly in the mid second century, in an attempt to discredit the Jewish roots of the New Testament. This original order clued me in to an accelerated Biblical Discipling course that Paul uses to make Gentile believers fruitful, rather than the typical spectator on a pew that we see so much of in churches today. Our congregation now uses this course, going through the Pauline letters in their original order. The book also provides the background on the Tenach (Old Testament).

Our Hope for Years to Come: The Search for Spiritual Sanctuary
Published in Paperback by Augsburg Fortress Publishers (October, 1995)
Average review score:

Superb photography and well-done devotions.I have owned a lot of devotional books, but this is by far my favorite--a statement that I don't make lightly. Dr. Marty is a well-known church historian and theologian, but this book will speak equally well to scholars, preachers, or anyone else who seeks to reflect on their faith. Marty has matched hymn verses with the devotions, and the genius of both Martys is evident as the pictures, hymns, and devotions speak together. As much as I praise the devotions, I must confess that often I just look through the pictures, which say enough to me all by themselves.
A wonderful Lenten guideOur Hope For Years to Come: The Search for Spiritual Sanctuary is a beautiful and inspirational lenten book by renouned University of Chicago theologian Martin Marty. Marty, who spent many childhood years in Nebraska, collaborated on the book with his son, photographer Micah Marty. For each day of Lent the book provides a photo of church architecture -- from small Nebraska churches to large cathedrals (including many from National Cathedral and St. John the Divine) -- a thoughtful message from Dr. Marty and an appropriate hymn quote. This beautiful book, available in book stores and at Amazon.com, may become a part of your lenten worship year after year. David E. Gardels

Parker Picks
Published in School & Library Binding by Simon & Schuster (Juv) (October, 2002)
Average review score:

Hysterical book for kids of all ages! This unique and creative children's book with amazing illustrations should be on everyone's holiday wish list! Kids should enjoy the gross-out factor and parents will like the lesson learned about the consequences of picking one's nose. The book is easy and fun to read and all the adults I've shown it to have loved it - especially the ending.
Every child needs this oneParker Picks humorously deals with a subject that has always been taboo. Every child does it but no one wants to talk about it. Even children who are too young to read it will learn from it. Rather than imply that picking one's nose is okay, the book allows children to see that there may be "dire" consequences for doing it, and the reactions from everyone else teach the unacceptability of the action. This book should be in every child's home and in every elementary school's library. The illustrations are well worth the price of the book.

Patchwork Picnic
Published in Paperback by That Patchwork Place (March, 2001)
Average review score:

A blend of quilts and recipes for hosting picnicsThese new arrivals provide a wealth of projects for avid quilters and sewers. Suzette Halferty and Nancy Martin's Patchwork Picnic provides a blend of quilts and recipes for hosting picnics. From a 4th of July starred red, white and blue quilt to a blue willow pattern for a concert in the park, this pairs projects with holidays and food ideas.
Take me on a picnic! It's been a long time since I've been on a picnic. I used to love them, and I'm not sure why we never go on them anymore. But this book is a visual picnic of quilts, foods, and color plates of antique cars and wildflowers and cello's and wild countryside with fine china and the soul of every fine picnic you have ever dreamed about. This volume is full of the kind of quilting projects I like best--practical and beautiful. There is a bee and bee hive quilt tablecloth to make for your patio and there are recipes for poached salmon and mango salsa to set on it. There's an Indian Summer quilt to spread on the ground beside your old black convertible to nibble on your sweet hazelnut pound cake. There's even a pastel dream house quilt to drag out to picnic at the building site of your new home. The book is a nice size and has full sized applique patterns and detailed color photos of quilts, accessories and country vegetation at it's peak. The directions and recipes are clear and there's a chapter at the end on quiltmaking basics. The best part of this book is that after browsing it for a lazy Saturday afternoon--it incited me to plan a picnic--maybe I'll make one of the fabric lined baskets and invite my husband to a ride in the country on his old silver wing. I've got a t-shirt quilt with dragon flies quilted on it and the dogwood and azealias are in bloom.

Patek Philippe: Geneve: Montres-Bracelets Armbanduhren Orologi Da Polso Wristwatches
Published in Hardcover by Scanlon American Reprints (February, 1994)
Average review score:

Very intresting and exciting readingI am not a very good writer so Í can not make this very long. I am a proud owner of a beatifull Patek Philippe wristwatch. All reading about Patek Philippe is very intresting.
The authoritative book on Patek PhilippeThis book is an excellent reference for Patek Philippe enthusiasts and collectors. The layout is a bit confusing but the content is first class. While the reference models coverage is not exhaustive all important models and movements have been included. Blow ups of important movements made in house by Patek Philippe have been presented in exploded view illustrations as well as in photographs. The movement table at the end of the book is useful for collectors. The photographs are excellent and provide a visual history of the watchmaker. This is a book for all levels of watch appreciators. The technical content is competent and the descriptions and illustrations are a treat. The way the book is structured requires some work on the part of the reader if he or she is familiar with the house and is seeking information about a particular watch.
